Is Alvarez unlucky? |
Who was next on Alvarez's list? Former welterweight champion Victor Ortiz. Ortiz was coming off a controversial knockout loss against Floyd Mayweather Jr. But before Ortiz could get a fight against Alvarez, he had to fight underdog Josesito Lopez. Ortiz was not expected to lose, but Lopez pulled off a big upset when Ortiz's corner stopped the fight because of a broken jaw, and he proved that he could be the next potential opponent for Alvarez. When Lopez did fight Alvarez, it was a dominant performance from Canelo, knocking him out in five rounds.
Alvarez is expected to return to the ring on May 4, the same night that Floyd Mayweather Jr. fights Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero. His next opponent will likely be Austin "No Doubt" Trout. Many sources reported that Trout was arrested for public intoxication. Let's hope that this doesn't affect this potential fight, because I would love to see Alvarez up against a legit light middleweight champion. Trout is coming off the biggest win of his young career, a lopsided unanimous decision victory over future Hall-of-Famer Miguel Cotto.
This fight is an even matchup for me, I definitely think Trout has the ability to beat Alvarez, but I can't overlook the possibility of that particular outcome.
Nice and informative.
